Staying on top of your immigration case just got a little easier — but only if you know about a recent change from USCIS.

What Changed

USCIS has introduced a new dedicated number for text message alerts. Applicants who opt in will now see messages come from 872466, which spells “USAIMM.” This number replaces older short codes previously used by the agency.

The alerts let you know when USCIS has accepted your application, petition, or request. They are sent soon after USCIS receives and inputs your paperwork, giving you peace of mind that your filing is moving forward.

How to Sign Up

To receive these updates, you must file Form G-1145, E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance, along with your application package. By completing this one-page form and attaching it to the front of your submission, you’ll get both:

  • Text message updates to your mobile phone, and
  • Email notifications to the address you provide.

Without this form, you won’t receive the alerts.

Why It Matters

For many applicants — especially those waiting on time-sensitive cases like marriage green cards, work permits, or naturalization — knowing that USCIS has accepted your filing is an important first step. The new alert system helps you track your case more easily and reduces stress about whether your application was received.

Important Reminder

These text alerts are helpful, but they are not official notices. You will still receive your official USCIS receipt notice (Form I-797) by mail. Always keep the mailed receipt notice for your records, as it contains your case number and serves as proof of filing.

Bottom Line

If you are applying for citizenship, a marriage-based green card, or any other immigration benefit, be sure to include Form G-1145 with your application. Doing so ensures you’ll be enrolled in the new USCIS text alert system — and gives you real-time peace of mind while your case is pending.
